Alaine Buchanan, Ph.D.

Dr. Alaine Thomson Buchanan is a follower of Jesus, an active duty Army chaplain’s wife, and a mom. She is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God and is also a public speaker, a preacher, and a Bible study teacher, trainer and writer. She teaches at both the seminary (graduate) and undergraduate levels for SUM, and her favorite classes to teach focus on hermeneutics, biblical exegesis and biblical theology. Her research interests hone in on biblical interpretation and rhetoric in relation to social concerns in Second Temple Jewish history and literature (500 BC-70 AD), which also inform theology and praxis in today’s world. She enjoys journeying with her students in growing their understanding of Scripture and in seeing them become stronger followers of Jesus.
