After careful consideration of the most recent scientific proof from the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), they are advising the public to put on a face covering in enclosed spaces where social media is not always possible or where you come into contact with people that you don't normally meet to help reduce the spread of coronavirus.
Protective masks versus respirator masks
What's a protective mask?
- Masks are loose fitting, covering the mouth and nose
- Designed for one time protection, to capture bodily fluid exiting the wearer
- Example -- worn during surgery to prevent coughing, sneezing, etc the exposed individual
What's a Respirator Mask?
- Respirators are tight fitting masks, designed to make a facial seal
- Non-valved respirators Offer good two-way protection, by filtering both inflow and outflow of air
- All these are designed to protect the wearer (when worn properly)up into the security rating of this mask
- Accessible as disposable, half face or full face
- Not to use by the general public
Surgical masks have higher requirements, and respirators have the highest requirements. Respirators also generally fit tighter round the face (data shows they score higher on athletic effectiveness) than surgical masks and single-use face masks.
Disposable Mask
A disposable mask is a loose-fitting, device that produces a physical barrier between the nose and mouth of the wearer and possible contaminants in the immediate atmosphere. Masks are produced in various thicknesses and with differing abilities to defend you in contact with liquids. These properties may also affect how easily you can breathe through the face mask and how well the mask protects you.
Even though a disposable mask may be effective in preventing splashes and large-particle droplets, a face mask, by design, doesn't filter or block very small particles from the air which could possibly be transmitted by coughs, sneezes, or certain medical procedures.
Disposable masks are not meant to be utilized more than once. If your mask is either damaged or soiled, or when passing through the mask gets difficult, you need to remove the face mask, then discard it securely, and replace it with a new one. To safely discard your mask, then put it in a plastic bag and put it in your home garbage bin. Clean your hands after handling the used mask.
FFP2 masks are used to protect the lungs out of anything poisonous in the atmosphere. This could be from dust and particles, to aerosols and smoke. There are several online store to masques ffp2.
The FFP2 mask provides more protection compared to FFP1. It's the EU equivalent of the US N95 regular and advocated by the World Health Organisation (WHO) during the outbreaks or SARS, coronavirus and avian flu. It offers protection against deleterious materials in the air such as lead dust, in addition to aerosols and smoke. It's, therefore, a favorite mask in metal and mining industries, agriculture, and is your go-to mask for healthcare professionals to protect against influenza.
